Emergency Procedures

An emergency is a serious, unexpected, often dangerous situation that requires immediate action. The emergency procedure is a plan of actions to be conducted in a certain order or manner, in response to an emergency event. An emergency procedure identifies the responsibilities, actions and resources necessary to deal with an emergency.

It is important that every tenant of Cadillac Fairview understands what to do and who to contact in the event of an emergency. Individual tenant organizations must also have their own emergency procedures in place that are specific to their work areas and ensure their employees know and understand these procedures. Cadillac Fairview has prepared a detailed Tenant Emergency Preparedness Manual specifically designed for tenants, which is delivered to each tenancy annually.

Annually, an Emergency Warden Training Workshop is scheduled in order to train the tenant “Emergency Responders” in fire alarm and evacuation procedures. The Manager of Fire and Life Safety can also conduct specific training sessions for organizations upon request.

To complement the tenant training, a Building Evacuation Exercise is held annually for each building. The purpose of this exercise is not only to meet the legislative requirement of the evacuation, but its true meaning is the opportunity for our tenants to test their internal response plans in conjunction with the building response plans.
